Lake Chelan Arts Council – What We Do and Who We Serve

The Lake Chelan Arts Council was founded in 1985 to promote, fund and support the visual and performing arts in and around Chelan, WA. The Arts Council sponsors the annual Lake Chelan Arts Festival. It is the leader in developing and maintaining the Lake Chelan Outdoor Art Gallery, with the ongoing support of the City of Chelan and the Chamber of Commerce. It supports art appreciation in local elementary schools. It offers scholarships in the arts. It also sponsors art classes in cooperation with Main Street Gallery.

The Arts Council is made up of volunteers and serves as an umbrella organization to support all forms of art and music in the Chelan Valley.

Lake Chelan Arts Festival:  Now in its 10th year, the Arts Festival is the Council’s biggest fundraising event. The two day festival, held in June at Riverwalk Park, brings together a variety of artists and artisans to showcase and market their art to the Chelan community, and to the many visitors who arrive to enjoy the unique attractions of Chelan. Many hard-working volunteers work to make this event a success.

An Arts Festival Prospectus and Application can be found on this website.

Lake Chelan Outdoor Art Gallery:  Placed throughout Chelan you will find a number of original and often whimsical sculptures from artists including Jerry McKellar, Mark Strain, Shannon Fharnham, and the late Richard Beyer. Of special note is the Peace Pole, purchased in 2013 by Lake Chelan Rotary, the Arts Council and the community. The Peace Pole joins over 20,000 poles in more than 190 countries expressing the same hope inscribed on every other pole: May Peace Prevail on Earth. In addition, over 15 murals grace a variety of buildings throughout Chelan, calling to mind flora, fauna and historical events important to the Lake Chelan area. The Arts Council is continuing to purchase other exciting new public works of art with the support of the City of Chelan and Chamber of Commerce.

A map to the Outdoor Gallery can be found on this website and at the Chelan Chamber of Commerce.

Picture This: In January 2018 the Arts Council launched an art appreciation program for third grade students in Chelan and Manson, held once a month from September to May. Our volunteers work with teachers to present a different artist, such as Van Gogh, each month. Students learn about the artist, study a selected artwork and learn the artist’s technique. Then they are tasked with creating their own art projects in that artist’s style. Students, teachers and parents continue to express great enthusiasm for the program.

Visual Arts Scholarship: Establishing an arts scholarship has long been a desire of the Lake Chelan Arts Council. A scholarship program was developed and approved by the Council in 2018. It is designed to support graduating seniors from Chelan Valley as they pursue a post-secondary education in visual arts.

A Visual Arts Scholarship Application can be found on this website.

Art Classes: Art classes are sponsored by the Arts Council and Main Street Gallery and cover a variety of media such as oil, watercolor and pastel.  Upcoming classes are announced on this website. In addition, if you would like to receive an email announcement on upcoming classes, please send your email information to Barb Koenig at

Student artists can apply for a grant to attend a class. The grant form is available on this website.
